This last weekend I was flipping through the channels and stumbled across some sort of wrestling show. Not sure if it was TNA, WWE, ECW or what-have-you, but I was dumbfounded. I thought, "Oh cool, I haven't watched wrestling in awhile. I'll watch this for a bit." A bit turned out to be about 10 minutes. I couldn't watch it any more. The wrestling was slow and un-interesting and the announcers were talking about things not even relevant to the match. Then hearing the personalities talking with each other backstage was the last straw. These guys and gals simply cannot act. For the most part, at least.
When I watched, I got to see Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Mick Foley, The Undertaker and more go back and forth and really show ultimate dislike between each other. These guys exuded charisma and every match was filled with electricity. But I began to wonder if that was the case only because I was younger and was able to suspend my disbelief easier. I still find the wrestling industry fascinating (I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of The Wrestler to the South Valley) but I just can't sit through the tepid story lines and horrific acting any more.
I think the question of whether or not the things we enjoy in our youth are looked back on with smiles because they were actually good or we're just using the rose-tinted glasses is one that would have to be answered another day... But it's one that I've been thinking about lately. Was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles really THAT awesome? I'll continue to work on this and report results later.
Enough rambling. Time for the Web Waster of the Day:
