I haven't been this affected by a football game since the Packers lost in overtime two years ago to the New York Giants in the NFC Championship Game. Now the Packers lost again in overtime with Aaron Rodgers at the helm to the Arizona Cardinals 51-45. As a Packers fan, I wanted that win real bad. They fought back and showed so much heart and character that I knew if they could win, they'd have a great chance of beating New Orleans next week. Unfortunately, a flukey play ended the game and gave the Cardinals the win after Rodgers was hit and lost the ball, recovered by Arizona and was returned for the game winning touchdown.
I'll admit, there were a few missed calls in that game that could have gone in favor of Green Bay. Sure, some of them could have prevented the Cardinals from scoring, especially on the final play of the game. However, on the other side of the coin, the Packers left a lot of plays on the field that could have given them that edge. They had an opportunity to score a touchdown before the end of the first half that only became a field goal. Mason Crosby barely missed a 54 yard field goal in the second half, and Aaron Rodgers just overthrew Greg Jennings on the first play in overtime that would have gone for a touchdown and the win.
It truely was a game of "shoulda, coulda, woulda" for the Green and Gold and I have great optimism that next year the Packers could really have something special going. There are a few questions on players coming back, like unrestricted free-agents Pickett, Tauscher and Colledge, but other than that the roster should resemble what we had this year, only with another year of experience (including a post-season appearance) tacked on. The Green Bay Packers in 2010 could be a dominating team in the NFL.
