Hump Day Artist of the Week

Wednesdays are almost always the toughest days to get through for me. Yeah, Mondays are rough with it being the start of the week, but usually for me, after the weekend I'm ready to start doing something other than lying around on my couch playing video games (if you have a Wii, you HAVE TO play Super Mario Galaxy, it rules!) and watching football (go Pack go!). It's the middle of the week, the weekend is still a bit too far off and the projects you wanted to get done by Tuesday at the latest still haven't even been started!

So I thought that I'd come up with a post that I will try my darndest to keep going. It's the Hump Day Artist of the Week. A band or artist that has been getting me through the days that I recommend you should give a listen to. It could be an artist you haven't heard before, one that you might have listened to in awhile, or maybe one that you absolutely love. I'll be happy to take suggestions in the comments on my blog here, or you are welcome to email them to me as well at joeyt@k107.com

So without further adieu, here is the first Hump Day Artist of the Week: Dustin Kensrue

Dustin is the lead singer of Thrice, a rock band that I went through high school and college listening to. At that time, it was all about the rock in my life, and Thrice fit the bill nicely. However, as the years went on, more musical tastes started to enter my life and I began branching out into other music like jazz and blues (hence my trip to the amazing Waukesha BluesFest). I also really got into singer/songwriters and folk music all the while still enjoying bands like Thrice.

Along the way, Dustin Kensrue put out a solo folk album called Please Come Home. It was a dream come true for me to get the passionate lyrics that Dustin belts out combined with the earthy acoustic guitar backing him up. The album is only 8 tracks long, but if you pick it up you're liable to keep it in the CD player or on your iPod playlist for many repeat listens. This week I haven't been able to get enough of his album, and that's why he's this week's Hump Day Artist.

Check out his MySpace page to get a great sampling of his album and be sure to pick it up the next time you're looking for a great folk album.

Stay tuned for next week's Hump Day Artist of the Week!
