That joke seemed funnier in my head than it does written out. Oh well. Not like that hasn't happen before!
Seriously though, I had an interesting voting experience today. I, like many of you, have heard the horror stories of waiting forever in line in order to get in there and vote. So I was prepared. I got to bed early last night (about midnight for me), and got up at 7:15 this morning. I made my coffee, washed up, and enjoyed a delicious breakfast of cereal and toast while watching Mike and Mike on ESPN2. Then, fearing the worst at the polls, I got set for every potential set-back. I grabbed an older pay-stub for proof of address as well as my PSP in case the line was crazy long. Nothing wrong with getting some Final Fantasy in on voting day, right?
So I was set to wait for at least half an hour and up to a couple of hours. I drove into my polling place at about 7:55am. And the parking lot was... empty. Bewildered, I thought maybe I was parking in the wrong lot. Seeing no signs, I walked in and saw the room in front of me empty with the exception of the poll workers. So I gave my name, got my number and ballot, filled it in, dropped it in the receptical and was out in less than two minutes.
Hardly the long wait that I was expecting. I was a little disappointed that I didn't get to have a more excrutiating story to tell friends and family. Not to mention I was looking forward to getting a little PSP action in... So I went home and decided to play there! It was great to get full use of my day though, rather than waking up so late. Maybe I won't be lazy and this could be an upcoming trend... though I doubt it.
Here's your Web Waster for election day:
MentalFloss - This is a really cool site to read up on useless trivia. It has stories across all kinds of topics. Some light and fluffy, others hard and opinionated. But I characterize this site as Discovery Channel's cool shows (i.e. Dirty Jobs, Cash Cab, Mythbusters) in magazine form. I guarantee that after a few visits, your Trivial Pursuit skills will exponentially increase.
