I'll start by saying that I am not one to cook. Ever. I really dislike having to wait to eat. However, lately I've been making a few more things beyond just frozen pizza and mac and cheese. Last night I decided to make some sloppy joes. Possibly my favorite hot sandwhich next to the reuben. My mom makes some of the best sloppy joes in the world so I asked her a couple of weeks ago what I should get to make them. She told me and I felt certain that I could handle making them.
However, the night of the true test came and I wasn't sure exactly what to cook the meat in after adding in the seasoning and tomato paste. You see, I've reheated plenty of sloppy joes as left-overs whilst visiting my parents and they have always been in a small pot that could go from the fridge straight to the stove for re-heating. Because of this, I wasn't sure if the meat should be made in the pot or on a frying pan. So I decided to call my parents and simply clarify how to properly cook said hamburger. I got an answer without any problem and went ahead cooking the sloppy joes in the pot and eating a delicious meal.
Not more than an hour after finishing my culinary victory, I received a call from my dear sister, mocking me for not knowing the simple fact that I could cook just about anything, inside anything else and it would be fine. I explained that I had never made sloppy joes before and wanted to make sure that my efforts would be working towards a delicious dinner. However, she believes that this is a monumental oversight on my part and I'm sure that I'll hear about it time and time again.
I suppose it serves me right, after all of the other inside jokes I've retold year after year. I don't know that my slip up is really worthy, but I'm sure the rest of my family will work towards making me believe the opposite. And all I have to say is, "Bring it on."
